Time to suit up for the mindless blockbuster. Not my favorite pastime but every now and then you just need a CGI enhanced sketchy plot infused sensory overload.

Game of Thrones
My buddy Swami told me about this show that he watches called ‘Game of Thrones’. I’d never heard about it. This conversation happened about 4 years ago. ‘You have to watch this show’ he said excitedly. ‘Its about these different kingdoms that are all battling to get on the iron throne’. I was intrigued but in no hurry to break out the popcorn. Finally one night I relented and parked myself in front of the TV and pressed play. All it took was one scene to get me hooked. The Revenant
This movie isn’t for everyone; let me get that out first. Some of the scenes are the most graphic you’ll ever see. In saying that, Leonardo DiCaprio gives an astonishing performance in a tale of survival and revenge that makes you feel like you are right there with him. Oscar should come knocking. Continue reading The Revenant
Fury
“Ideals are peaceful, history is violent” says ‘Wardaddy’ (Brad Pitt) to his new young gunner ‘Norman’ (Logan Lerman). It’s part of an ‘education’ into the new soldier’s survival as their tank ‘Fury’ storms its way through German towns in April 1945.
Sicario
The war on drugs has failed. Mexican Cartels have corrupted everything and nobody is out of reach, especially along the border. Kate (Emily Blunt) would soon discover her job as an FBI agent has minimal impact, especially when her team raids a house near Phoenix and she is cast deeper into the drug war. Continue reading Sicario
American Sniper
This is a movie about one mans journey from a strict up bringing through a wayward lost path to finding a cause he believed in, albeit through the scope of a rifle.
Chris Kyle had more “kills” than anyone in US Military history, a fact that accords him ‘Legend’ status amongst his fellow warriors but also comes at a cost. Continue reading American Sniper
The Gift
A chance encounter with ‘Gordo’ (Joel Edgerton) whilst shopping turns the lives of married couple, ‘Simon’ (Jason Bateman) and ‘Robyn’ (Rebecca Hall) into an almighty mess.
Gordo is strange; there is no denying that, awkwardly stumbling through conversations and crossing social boundaries, Simon laughs about it with their dinner guests, mocking Gordo who he knew in high school, he calls him ‘Gordo the weirdo’. Continue reading The Gift
