This movie is a banger; it’s bigger, bolder and louder than the original. We get more Alien and the scares are up front, in your face. The history of sequels are littered with poor imitations or just downright disasters of their originals, but this comes damn close to outdoing ‘A Quiet Place’, which raked in almost $400 million at the box office.
The studio postponed the release of ‘Part 2’ for over a year, due to the pandemic shutting the doors of so many movie theatres, but already it’s crossed the $100 million mark in a little over two weeks. This was worth the wait.
Writer/Director John Krasinski has given us the movie of the year so far; he also makes an appearance as Lee, through a flashback to when the Aliens landed on Earth, causing such devastation with the invasion. Oh, how I love a good flashback, and this one is barnburner, literally.
The introduction of family friend Emmett (Cillian Murphy), who we see pre and post apocalypse is a masterstroke, is he a villain or willing to help Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and her kids in their fight for survival.

The sequel focuses more on the teenagers Regan, the magnificent Millicent Simmonds, and Marcus (Noah Jupe). Controlling headstrong teenagers is hard enough, try doing it when blood thirsty Aliens are nearby, waiting to strike when they make a noise.
It’s edge of your seat stuff; especially knowing no character is safe, as evidenced by the original. There’s also a search for other survivors, but not every human left has good intentions, in fact some are downright evil.

It’s hard to know where the franchise goes from here, the story has more scope if Krasinski want’s to take it there, and the studio knows this has become a moneymaker, but in this ongoing battle between movie theatres, streaming services and the fragments of a pandemic, what movies get made and what don’t, is anyone’s guess.
I do know this though, if ‘A Quiet Place Part 3’ gets the green light, I’ll be the first to buy a ticket.
